Pull out the old house so we wanted to pool here and we just like this house because it had space for us to grow we spent a lot of time in palm springs and we always end up staying these really cool mid-century houses and we thought hey maybe we can recreate that

In southern ontario so you’ll see a lot of that in the house our builder ben holmes who were sort of the design builders of the house really got what we were trying to do as well and they shared the same aesthetic sensibilities so it was kind of a symbiotic

Relationship with them they really brought out the inherent palm springs in burlington ontario the mudroom was essentially part of the garage there was no mud room there was a pokey little entrance with a strange little closet no access to the garage from the entrance which was very odd

So we just turned that into the sexiest mud room in burlington so it’s our it’s a very practical entrance it needs to allow me to get my sculptures out easily through the garage or through the front door and it’s got great light because of the addition of the clara story windows

Up top that was just a beautiful volume of space there’s the circulation spine you can either go downstairs to laird’s office or you can come upstairs so it’s a classic split there’s a generous landing which is a bit of an interesting transition space that that we didn’t quite know what to

Do with but our builder thought that it was a fantastic opportunity to kind of cleanse the palette between the new the addition the mud room and the more traditional older parts of the house this living room is the formal kind of living room yeah it’s a formal living room we will have

Because some of the paintings have photos of the exact bus with a family member in front of it so he was obviously in love with with transport as are we um and this was his little hobby or so we think the kitchen is basically the same layout as it was before

There was a little dinette table for two at the side and we love that idea and we love the idea of a banquette or an eat-in part of the kitchen um but again we just wanted to keep it simple keep it clean todd suggested the color of that kind of mossy

Yeah he thought it was a kind of a typical mid-century palette yeah and that was the orange bench bench and then the teak handles for uh the cabinets in the fridge were a great addition that ties into the paneling around the kitchen and putting the paneling on that made it the kitchen
