If you were wondering whether or not you can use evergreen fog on the outside of your home i’m happy to tell you that yes yes you can in fact i’m going to give you an entire color scheme using the sherwin-williams color of the year for 2025 alongside two other color combos

That will look awesome this year welcome back to the paint people and if you’re new here just welcome no welcome back this is one of our mini serieses that we do on the channel and it’s called color combos this is about me giving you three sets

Of three paint colors that you can use in your home or in this case on your home these are all color palettes that were intended for exterior use and i guess there’s nothing wrong with using them inside but in my little brain here i was definitely thinking of the outside

When i put them together each color combo will have a main body color which is going to go on the majority of the house a trim color which is designed just for that so all the trim that outlines bits of your house and then there’s the accent color which is going

To be the least used color but it’s meant to draw your eye the accent color is just intended to be different than everything else so that it becomes accentuated go figure the best place and the easiest choice for an accent color is going to be on your front door and

Maybe on some intricate shutters that you may have and you want to feature some people also use accent colors on garage doors but i’m personally not a massive fan of that because there aren’t a ton of garage doors that i really want to show off prominently and that’s exactly what

Accent colors tend to do they’re usually just big boring squares or rectangles and i’m more of a i don’t know a trapezoid fan i almost said rhombus but i’m pretty sure that a square is a rhombus small brain let’s get into these color combos starting with the first

Main body color and that is granite peak now granite peak is an interesting one because you could interpret it as a really cool kind of slate gray type of coloration and it’s also visibly dark with a light reflectance value of 14. that’s pretty low in the grand scheme of things but

You need to remember that when you use a color outside especially on the body of a house it’s being illuminated by the biggest possible light source you can possibly have so it will appear lighter outside than it might look inside 14 is a really low lrv so it’s still going to

Have a lot of visible depth regardless but just be reminded that a color you may thought was too dark inside may not be dark enough outside another thing to take note of is granite peak’s undeniable coolness i’m talking about color temperature by the way it’s a cool

Color but it’s also a cool color this color is definitely more bluey than gray-e to me and that will only be accentuated by the sun’s naturally cooler lighting even though the name might suggest otherwise i don’t really deem this as an earthy color like dark brown or taupe which do have those

Warmer undertones like yellow brown and red this one is very much blue leaning with a touch of green so excuse me so you will see a lot of that coolness on display do not make this choice if you’re looking for a dark gray and just a dark gray because in

Actuality it may appear more like a muted but shaded blue and i think it looks awesome so that’s kind of why i picked it the second color in this combo is the trim color and while you might be tempted to opt for something lighter and cooler to tie in but still pop against

Granite peak i went the other way and selected neutral ground which is a color that i’ve been really interested in lately you may look at it and think well it’s light but it doesn’t seem like a white which is usually what people start with when it comes to trim whether it’s

Inside or outside in fact it kind of has a beigey feel to it and you’d be totally right if you thought all these things but that’s sort of the point here so the lightness of a color is represented by lrv light reflectance value a neutral

Ground is at a 70. it’s a zero to 100 percentage scale the higher the lighter so 70 actually seems a bit dark for an off-white but when you use it outside it really lightens up especially next to granite peak you have that sort of contrasting effect of light and dark

Colors sort of accentuating each other and in terms of the beige aspect it’s actually pretty subtle when used outside because again you do have the cool light of the sun balancing the warmth out and almost neutralizing it and you also have to remember that neutral ground isn’t

Just beige it does have a little bit of that gray as well to help pacify its undertones a little bit it’s really meant to just be a safe solid slightly complementary trim color to help bring out a bit of that blue in granite peak so already we have a fairly

Dynamic pairing here although nothing i would call avant-garde that you would be very uncomfortable using i wanted to keep this trend going with the accent color something that can still stand out but not pull too much focus and for this i suggest iron ore as your accent color

It has an lrv of six so that’s got enough depth to call it black but it’s not necessarily a dead pan black it almost has that hint of gray to prevent it from feeling like a black hole swallowing you in it’s also a touch lighter and slightly less cool

Or even blue than tricorn black which is one of the sherwin-williams most popular black paint colors i just tend to gravitate towards those ever so slightly softened blacks for the outside and in this case in the form of your accent color and just to clarify this is

Probably an example of an accent color that i wouldn’t mind throwing on the garage doors as well just because it’s almost a supportive color rather than one that stands out on its own so that’s our first color combo done and as soon as you’re done hitting the like

Hand it’s extremely energetic almost too much so in a lot of cases and that’s further going to be amplified by bright sunlight but when you start to introduce just a touch of that little honey mustard that’s mixed into ambitious amber it softens it enough to make it a

Little bit easier on the eyes and i mean a little bit it also helps manage that cool sunlight which can turn some other yellows a tiny bit greeny which you may not want this one will remain a bit warmer in the face of all that beautiful

Uv light and the visible light because i think uv light is actually invisible so that’s a fun fact for the corresponding trim color in this case we have another very light neutral trim color just like the last combo although this one is a bit warmer and brighter it’s called

Shell white yet another paint color that i enjoy go figure why would i use colors that i hate in these things what i enjoy about it is it does have a hint of an orange undertone in the background which coordinates so perfectly with the amber color we just spoke about also because

Ambitious amber has about that 64 lrv that actually makes it feel pretty light so i wanted to go with an even lighter trim color to give you that added bit of contrast now i will say that shell white’s 83 lrv is sort of on the darker side of those pure white paint colors

Especially when you use it inside but outside totally different it’s going to look very clean and vibrant and i honestly wouldn’t really want to go much lighter or brighter than this outside in most cases for the accent color we’re going to choose something that is quite

Different but really a ton of fun yes it’s capitalizing on the green trend we see in design right now but no it’s not ever green fog that’s in the next color combo maybe i’m so bad at winking only on camera though green is a bit more out there

Kind of like me which is awesome it’s called verda green which is obviously based on the word their degree the patina that develops on brass and copper when it’s exposed to air or salt water but to my eyes vera de green is coincidentally a little more

Green than the patina it was named after which is a bit closer to turquoise but it still has a nice little balance of a lot of green a little bit of blue and some black to shade the color ever so slightly this is something that would

Be a more obvious choice as a main color but in this context i’m using it as an accent color and it’s called urban putty this mid-tone tan is extremely popular as an interior color because it’s pretty neutral but i like it as a subtle accent color alongside those two

Others because it is noticeably different compared to evergreen fog and peppercorn those two colors are definitely deep and almost smoky in comparison while urban putty introduces that familiar grayish type of coloration that will feel pretty different outside it’s almost repurposing and reinventing what we think as a simplistic color and
