What’s going on if one it’s Justin here and today I’ve got a tour of my modern kitchen in the condo so this is kind of like the second part of the series of videos I’ve had showing you the place after its renovation and sort of remodeling and new furniture so this is

Probably the area that saw the biggest change of the entire place even though I’m not someone who cooks that much because I tend to travel quite a bit for work and a lot of times it’s last-minute and having to figure out groceries and making sure nothing goes expired is somewhat a challenge

Cooking’s definitely one of the things that I want to get better at so in this video you’re gonna see me cook as well and it’s a mini that my friends picked out and I just went ahead and tried to cook it with very little instruction aside from the instructions on the

Website so that should be pretty funny but when it comes to the kitchen itself this is kind of like a modern farmhouse look when I was kind of picking out the renovations and deciding what to do with the place the floors was the first thing

That had to be changed and I feel like because her floors were getting ripped out and it was gonna be a huge mess anyways the kitchen before was one that was functional and it definitely worked and didn’t have any major flaws with it but both the quality and design

Definitely wasn’t the best so I decided that the kitchen was something that I really want to do because it is such a large part connected to the living room and the dining room in the main area of the space if you guys like to see me do

Guys around and also talk about like the different materials the paint colors the hardware and try to leave a link to as many products down below because I know a lot of the times I see stuff online and I just want to know where they got it from so the kitchen itself follows

The same type of main layout as it did before you’ve got the island in the sink on one side and the cooktop and rangehood on the other the main objective was to create as much storage as possible but also keep some of the old appliances that didn’t have to be

Replaced including the fridge and the oven I kind of made some renders initially in Photoshop before taking it to a local kitchen company Thomas and Burch to kind of note the design and also dimensions which is stuff that I would have messed up myself one of the biggest changes in layout that they

Suggested though was moving the barstools over to the side as opposed to on the front because that allowed me to maximize my storage in an area that didn’t need for more stools because there was already a six seat dining table so with that there was as much

Space as possible for the dining table as well as the walkway but also tons of storage for some random stuff and at least the two barstools would have a view of the window and the waterfront which he didn’t really have before when it comes to the two-tone design my

Initial Photoshop renderings that I made at home were intended to go with a dark theme for the entire kitchen but after visiting show room I saw the design of a two-tone layout with a dark and a light cream color and I was kind of sold on it

Both of which are a tone of grey but the reason why I liked the two-tone is because it transitions the place between a dark and light theme because the rest of the place is pretty much white and gray with how close the kitchen island was to the direct sunlight coming from

The windows I also felt like it was a better idea because with the possibility of fading over time you’d be far less noticeable if the cabinets on both sides were not the exact same color I really like the dark color especially I feel like it adds a lot of contrast but it

Also matches some of the dark hardware that I want to add in in conjunction with the gold I really did consider doing a seamless design but I feel like for the first kitchen I wanted to play it very safe and just go with the flow

Of the entire place as it is and a nice touch that brings it all together is the hardware all the hardware is from Buster and punch and I originally saw it in John Olsen’s kitchen and he just felt like I had to have it when it was time

To redo my kitchen the quality of the hardware is impressive and I use a combination of both the pull bar as well as the t-bar and the knobs all the hardware is made out of a solid brass diamond-cut crossroad and it comes in multiple different finishes whether it’s

Like a black look silver or even white and the reason why I didn’t go with a matte black is because I feel like the brass goes very well with the stainless appliances the cooktop itself is a thirty inch size from Samsung and the way my place was set up was that you

Couldn’t go with an electric cooktop you had to go with gas as someone who doesn’t know too much about cooking I feel like this is like a good mid end because I didn’t want to spend too much money on a cooktop but I feel like this also had a few

Touches that I really enjoyed as well the overall design as well as blue LEDs being one of them the fridge and oven are really anything too exciting its original ones that came with the place it is a Libra I believe and the oven is from AEG of course you can’t forget about the

Microwave though because that is probably one of the most used appliances So now moving over to the island you can see it’s just a few feet away from the dining table and it’s just nice to have three large deep compartments for storage the faucet itself is the breeze all its and I saw this over on Pinterest

Initially and I feel like a lot of the design choices of the kitchen kind of revolved around this the bronze no finish matches the hardware from Buster and punch perfectly and the rest of the black matte finish goes well with the sink another change that I opted to make

Was to take out the double sink with a divider in between before as well as a broken gather in one end to switch over to a single large sink this right here is made by German brand called Blanco and it’s a per cease line and a matte

Black finish and it also comes in a few different colors as well but I think the best thing beyond its look is that it is made out of a high quality material called silgranit which is a granite composite it’s very scratch and stain resistant because it is

Non-porous and also very easy to clean and I think just looks amazing and has a ton of storage for putting dirty dishes as well I think we’ve seen the steel being very common in economical all the times it does where quite easily so I feel like going with a material like

This will last for many years to come although I was worried at first that the black finish of the sink as well as the faucet wouldn’t go well with the rest of the kitchen it actually did turn out pretty good so moving over to the other

Side of the island you can see once again the Buster and Punch Harbor just really stands out the overall layout was relatively similar to what it was before with a few different tweaks and optimizations just to maximize storage and also add a few things here and there

Because the Allen was already gonna be extended in length I didn’t want to reduce the size of the island overall for some of the reductions in the main compartment as well as the drawers we were able add a garbage can in the middle as well as still keeping a

Full-size dishwasher one of my favorite things about it is that it is pen already so it blends in seamlessly with all the other cabinets this one here is from the samsung chef collection and even though a dishwasher is just a dishwasher there’s a few different features to it that make it kind of

Unique instead of using a rotary spray arm to clean it has a water wall that moves back fourth in a bar format to get to the hard-to-reach places you’ve also got your tray on the top for utensils but perhaps my favorite feature is that after it’s done cleaning it will open up

Five inches to let the steam out in case you might not be home otherwise you’ve got some barstools in the end that I picked up from wafer that I’m honestly not a huge fan of so I’m still trying to find like a proper set of barstools but

Of course as a tech guy I had to have power outlets and USB ports in every area possible and this right here is from top greener and it’s got USB type-c as well as type-a these outlets can be found on both sides of the island and

Also on the cooktop side as well perhaps one of the biggest things in the entire kitchen though that kind of brings everything together is the countertop as well as the backsplash just like the sheer surface area of it and there’s a few factors that come in beyond looks and that is also durability

The countertop and backsplash that I went with is from Caesar stone and the color is called 551 and pure white it’s the latest interpretation of Calcutta marble from the supernatural collection and going into it I knew I wanted a kind of bright finish to the countertop kind

Of like the marble design but marble is extremely expensive it’s not as durable requires some form of maintenance and I just knew I was gonna go for quartz quartz is one of the most durable options you can go with super low maintenance doesn’t need to be resealed

Or anything i was either trying to decide between going of the waterfall island or going with the same material as the countertop on the backsplash and although I love subway tiles and definitely considered it I feel like this is like the lowest maintenance option super easy to clean and looks amazing

Living room and dining room as someone who is picky about chairs oh and hasn’t found a bar stool yet one of my favorite pieces is also from Grove concepts and that is the Audrey chair beam from the same company the walnut matches the table perfectly as well as the media

First course on the state’s kitchen menu is wild Atlantic salmon in a lemon rosemary seasoning these are salmon fillets picked up at the grocery store with the skin on I don’t believe there are any bones but the first step was just to wash it before cooking next up

Was to peel the vegetables and also chop them into pieces because although I did want to cook them in one single piece it would have taken much longer so far everything’s pretty straightforward that pretty much anybody could do Although the instructions did say to fire up the oven and cook it through that method I decided to use a pen just because I wanted to challenge myself first step was just to throw all the vegetables in the pan and let them sit for a while because these are probably

Gonna take a little bit longer than the fish honestly whenever I do cook I don’t really use salt or pepper I just eat like very bland maybe throw a little bit of sauce on it but in this case because I wasn’t the one that was eating it I

Decided to season it with just a bit of salt and pepper except it was time to cook the fish and I started out with one tablespoon of olive oil I also threw in the rosemary in the pan as well I didn’t really know if that was supposed to go in the

Beginning or end but otherwise I feel like a lot of it is down to timing which is also the hardest part you can always follow the instructions but there’s always some variables depending on the size of the fish your stove but in this case it was just flipping over every few

Minutes and keeping an eye on it the next step was to get the piece of lemon ready just to add it and give it some flavor and as you guys will probably tell in this video I played it very safe in the seasoning just use like lemon rosemary salt pepper and just didn’t

Really do too much experimenting it was time to just dump it all into a pan and just get some of that taste in I don’t really know if it made a difference or not but the next step was to plate it first one went pretty well but the

Second one kind of dropped so it didn’t look very good kind of threw it around and I feel like the salmon looked like it was relatively well cooked but as you can see the presentation definitely wasn’t the best and the lemon was there for no particular reason so now it’s

Time to get judged on my first attempt It’s pretty moist like hopefully it’s a good that’s not bad yeah I’m going for care now yeah that’s worship to talk but I did a decent job there’s a there’s another hair in here it’s not black hair you know what it’s yours and hookers in the high alright

That’s a negative ten points on presentation now you lost everything Vegetables could have used a bit more seasoning Like I just because salmon is really moist I just a protective Cup it’s wrong Melissa yes Yeah three minutes just need your trust of us so for presentation I’d give it about a seven eight I mean one of them was a seven eight the other one was like a too good a drop day I think it looked it was nicely laid out

Once we found the hair though that kind of lost me to area you know that I don’t know if that goes in a presentation or oh yeah I didn’t taste them so I can’t put them that’s not taste yes so presentation would I keep it a disseminate if you didn’t find the hair

Taste I’m gonna say I’ll see six I’m not it does taste a bit wrong still eating that piece that I tried it until you rot yeah like it’s certainly not the best time when I had that it’s not like I’m gonna have to run to the bathroom we

Half five point five we teach read the other stuffs yeah well hopefully and go learn from this one go out go lobster might be a bit moist – I’d rather you overcook that one [Applause] so the first course was a little bit undercooked but the good thing is the

Second one is a spice-rubbed t-bone steak that can’t really be undercooked the first step was to set up the seasoning and apparently I was doing it wrong just by throwing it on the steak instead of mixing up the spice rub beforehand the next step was to spread

It evenly and I personally don’t really like to put too much seasoning on my cooking but my friends said that they wanted me to put a little bit more for this one we’re starting off the pan with some butter instead of olive oil and another little challenge that I decided

To try was to cook Lobster and throw it with the steak funny enough even though I don’t cook that often I actually have cooked lobster before because I wanted lobster once and my mom told me to go to the grocery store and cook it myself I’ve been heating up the pan and getting

It started it was time to put down the steak and just keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t overcook one of the challenges though is instead of going with like a fillet or something this is a t-bone steak and the one I have right here is relatively thin which made it

Very easy to overcook even though I didn’t feel like I had it on the pan for that long after just a couple minutes this thing was burnt I personally normally order steak like medium-well but I know a lot of people like it medium-rare and in this case I

Have failed the lobster has been in boiling water for about 10 minutes though and I feel like it is safe to eat the rich’ looks amazing and I feel like there’s not really much needed aside from some butter sauce I went with the exact same seasoning method as I did

With the salmon just a bit of lemon piece of rosemary that was probably useless but I think this meal is good to go and it looks pretty good How bad is it I mean it’s steak I prefer medium rare that’s what I was hoping to get and made it well-done but uh the seasonings pretty good can’t complain there but uh the time is just a little bit off so far it’s like chewing gum right mm-hmm it’s a good thing those

Cooks still gonna separate they might build a Guinness rooms next to each other in the hospital same treatment at least let’s keep the go and honestly it’s I’m just surprised it’s better than I expected it to be better than the seven better than the same yeah little bit too nice understand

Yeah call me it’s pretty much it was that good yeah for this one I think the presentation is gonna get a six out of ten there was a little less decoration for this one but also burnt that’s okay no hairs though so that was applying this all cursory loss result rolled up so

Did a pretty good job and I was a pretty big fan of it myself ten minutes later my rigatoni was perfect and I just dumped in some like canned sauce that I didn’t even have to microwave because the noodles were already hot so my first time cooking in

The new kitchen I think I did a decent job I mean nobody died from a meal and I think I could have done a better job in terms of timing of both the steak and the salmon but I feel like with a lot of other skills you can follow instructions

And do things accordingly but the big challenge and what you kind of gained over a period of time is just a sense of adding your own touch knowing how to adjust the taste techniques and timing things will make things much easier as I start to practice cooking more otherwise
